County Announces Photography Contest Winners

Winners in Adult and Youth Categories Receive $250 Prize

In December 2018, Elbert County announced a County-wide photo contest to commemorate the 2018 Pedal the Plains cycling event and to show off its beauty and the western spirit of its amazing residents. There was a great response in both the youth and adult categories, with dozens of local photographers submitting their work through the County’s Facebook page ( Residents were invited to vote for their favorites, which were then submitted to a panel of local judges for final award selection.

Elbert County is pleased to announce the winners of the first Elbert County Photo Contest! In the youth category, the winner is Bonnie Skalecke for her lovely sunset barn photo, and in the adult category, the winner is John Duvall, for his vivid photo of a tractor at sunrise. Both photos are included below.

The contest, including the $500 in prize money, was funded through a generous donation from Colorado Creative Industries as part of their Community Canvas initiative – a small, matching grant program for Pedal the Plains communities. The photos will be displayed in the Elbert County Administration Building, as well as the Kiowa Town Hall and the Elbert County Museum.  Winners were honored at the Elbert County Board of County Commissioner’s regular meeting on April 24.
